Archery Elk

So, Who here on the site are avid elk hunters or have hunted elk?

I havent yet... But its something I plan on hunting in the next 5 years.

I have hunted elk in the past i've shot 3 two with archery and one rifle all 3 were bulls which were decient for our area. The hunting terrain is more rolling hills no steep mountains to climb around here. I stopped hunting them when we started to get more moose in our area and the tags are on a draw system we can only draw for moose or elk not both I'll get back to hunting them i just want 1 more moose. It is very fun though i shot first archery bull at 7' pretty exciting he just finished bugling at 15' then stepped right out in front of me. he went 20 yards and tipped over.

we hunt elk every year ..my wife and i usually take our 5th wheel trailer out the first week of Aug,.... yes Aug..to what we like to call elk heaven ... our achery season here stars Aug 25 and our rifle season starts Sept 17...we usual hunt achery moose and elk till the end of november ...or wish we could ... but it seems we have so much time and so few tags... .. and its looking very good again this year.....

I love hunting elk and can't wait to go again, but in South Dakota your chance of drawing a tag is slim, I have nine years preferance in some units. We are thinking of going to Colorodo where we can get a tag. I can't wait to here the bugles again, thats probably the best sound i've ever heard.

Haven't ever hunted elk, but I would like to once in my life. It doesn't matter to me if I only draw a cow tag. Just want to get some elk meat.

Elk tags are sold over-the counter in my part of Colorado for:

Archery - Either sex
2nd Rifle - Bull
3rd Rifle - Bull
