lmao...just pretend your camping out. That's the best way to start learning. A wood cook stove's heat is not regulated very well, just like a campfire.

Just need to remember to keep moving the pans on/off the hot spot above the fire...easy as cooking a pot of water if you keep that in mind.

I have a homemade copy of a LILY it was made in '84 1/2 plate steel,takes forever to get hot but once you get there it stays a long,long time
can load 34in. logs in it .
filled it to the top with white oak on a thurs. morn. come back sun.night ,spun the dampeners open went back out to unload car and looked up and there was smoke starting to come out.
stove was still 1/2 full.
put it in basement ,there it will stay (really heavy) hooked duct work and added a 1/2 hp motor and fan. when the floors are warm and there's a blizzard going on you really appreicate that wood stove.

My parents used wood to heat the house until they upgraded to a hot water heating system. Now the wood stove has been replaced with two natural gas boilers, one for the house and the other for the garage. Hauling wood isn't the easiest task on the elderly.

I too heat with wood and with the ice storm we had in so. Il. was out of power for 5 days it was like a camping out candle and cooking over a fire. I was worried about the venison in freezer it made it ok

Yeah it is some work, but it's good work makes me feel like i'm getting out and doing something.
