by far the most underated piece of equipment is the ThermaCell. It works, I have used it from lakes of Canada to the swamps of Mississippi and swear by it.
Overrated hard to say, I have a large plastic tote full of hunting stuff I just had to have and now never use. Way too many turkey calls and gadgets for this or for that.

I agree the Thermacell is under rated.
