Well the results of the Ontario Moose Lottery were out August 1st. No luck here for an archery bull tag. There are surplus archery cow tags in my WMU that I hunt so I'll be on the phone the day they're available. August 15th I think.
Irregardless of whether we pull a bull tag for my group or not, my son and I still head north for the archery season. We can still hunt calves, but the chances are slim for a bowhunter. We still enjoy the week away and do some grouse hunting, fishing and visiting friends we've made over the years. We can still call in bulls and try and get some pics and footage though. TBow |

Sorry no tag for you, we were lucky and have 2 bull tags for our group this year and looking forward to the hunt. Only 2 weeks away now and can't wait.

I stopped giving Maine my money cause I read the odds where slim to none to get a moose tag there. Someone else was saying go further north into Quebec or New Brunswick and your odds are much better to buy a tag and kill one. Just saying why bother.

My wife is drawn for calf moose here on the military base where we work. It is generally 100% success. I should have a deer tag as well, but it will have to be a cranker for me to drop the hammer. Besides, we'll be looking for Sheila's moose, so a deer really won't be the focus. Should be fun!!

We got home from our moose hunting excursion on October 2nd. We brought home a ton of good memories, about 8 ruff gouse and a belly full of pickeral, but alas, no moose. We had bulls responding to our calls, but with no bull or cow tags, all we expected to get were some pics or footage. On a couple of the days, the bulls that were responding to our calls were hauled back by a very upset cow.
Leige, funny you should mention the military base. On our way home we passed by Petawawa and while driving past the shooting / bombing range near the base, we saw a moose piled up alongside the road near one of the entrances to the range. We were tempted to stop for some roadkill, but opted to keep on truckin' home. All we'd a needed was Larry, Darrell & Darrell's Gourmet Guide to Roadkills to top off the trip. TBow |

I'll be leaving on the 15th for my calf hunt. Can hardly wait to get into the bush.
