Default Moose Lottery Coming Soon

The moose lottery in Ontario is coming up soon. The applications have to in by May. It's usually May 15th, but that date has changed a little in the last year or so to Mat 31st I think mostly because of problems with the MNR's automated system I believe.

We had a bull tag last year in our group so we have one less Pool 1 application and one of my son's friends who went with us last year didn't buy a moose license until after the lottery, so he's in Pool 2 as well. So our group tally will be 4 x Pool 1 and 2 x Pool 2 applications.

Chances of an Archery Bull tag are slim at best, but the past two years they've increased the cow tags in my WMU (Wildlife Management Unit), allowing some 2nd Choice applications to draw a cow tag. Pretty hard to get a cow with the bow as they're harder to call, unlike the bulls at that time of year. To hunt cows you pretty much have to look for well used trails at feeding sites, set up stands and just wait.

NIce. Here in BC the LEH has been posted on the government site and they have gone from June 14th to May 21st now. I got my bull moose draw last year so I'm debating to put in again this year or not since my odds are lower. Good luck to you this year!

Well I delivered my group's moose tag applications to the local district Ministry of Natural Resources office today. Fingers crossed!

Too bad that I can't do that. My chances of getting a tag as a single hunter is nil and I don't know anybody to form a group with. At least I finally found some places to hunt deer and turkeys. Now I just need to find some folks to hunt moose with so I can take advantage of the Moose draw in Ontario.

August 1st the moose lottery results will be available in Ontario, so I'm anxiously looking forward to calling in a week and a half to check if we lucked out.

My brother-in-law opted to buy a moose lisence this year and possibly accompany us to northern Ontario this fall. He bought it just after I sent in our group application, so we had to submit his as an individual. Obviously he's in Pool 2, so his chance at a bull are pretty much NIL, but he may have a shot at a cow tag as the WMU in which we hunt has increased the cow tag allocations immensely for bowhunters.

Whether we draw an adult tag or not, my son and I are going irregardless. Always an adventure.
