I've been around awhile and haven't seen any other pistol hunters besides me?
Any one here hunt with a pistol? What do you shoot and what do you hunt? |

I'm hunting with a 7.5'' Ruger this year. 45LC 255gr WFN at around 1100fps. Hope to get a deer or 2 this year. I've got to leave the rifle at home though. I carried both last year and used the rifle both times.

![]() I've shot the 45 LC for many years, it don't get much better than that IMO. I get alot more of a rush shooting my revolvers but I also shoot several different single shots, especially when I know the ranges will be long. |

I have hunted with a pistol but, not in several years. I have a SSP91 chambered in 7mm BR and have taken several deer with it but, just haven't taken it out in a while.

I have as well.
TC Contender (2nd gen) with 357 Maximum 14" barrel. I should take that one out this year for gun season...

If I get caught with my 45 other then the gun range I'll get thrown in jail
I wish we could have that option to use it

I've got a few pistols just not any you can hunt with in IL. They've got some goofy regs on cases/calibers. I'm looking to get a TC pistol or maybe a Smith revolver in the near future.

yup
Bottle neck cases have to be larger than .30 caliber and a case length of 1.4" or shorter. Any straight wall cartridge of .30 caliber or larger available as a factory load with a published muzzle energy of 500 ft. lbs. There is no length limit on straight walled cases. Centerfire revolvers or single shots only, no semi's, minimum barrel length of 4". Muzzle loaders have to have a barrel length of 16" so no muzzle loading revolvers either. I haven't searched that much, but I can't think of any bottle neck cases that are that short except maybe the .357 sig and I don't think that's available in anything but an auto loader. So basically a 30-30 is not legal but a straight wall like a .600 nitro express is perfectly legal!!! ![]() ![]() Seems like someone who wrote the regs doesn't quite understand ballistics or energy.
