I'm not sure how effective this will be, but I took the wooden letter trays out of my Scrabble game and put them into an old sock. Sounds pretty much like antlers rattling to me, but I don't know if it's close enough to it to fool the deer. Haven't called in a buck using it yet.

Sounds perfect to me!! The rattle bag I have has wooden dowel rods in a sack...pretty much what you made for free!! Good thinking!

I wonder if different woods would sound better or that much different?

The dowel rods in my bag are oak...they probably do sound different.

the one problem I'm having with the bag I made is that the letter trays tend to mesh together sometimes to where they won't rattle, and I have to work with it some to loosen them up.
I'm thinking it should start working better in the coming week or so. I think the rut's getting ready to kick in, and maybe the rattling will draw them in better.
