Depends on if I'm hunting for the freezer or looking to fill an extra tag. My extra tag is usally used only for an buck during the late season, and anything with decent horns is fair. A good buck in our area is around 120"+.

I hunt for the freezer. The first big body that comes along goes down. If it has a rack great. Once I got freezse meat then look for a wall hanger. I don't hunt as hard for the wall hanger. We can take six deer in a seson here.
I'm usually pretty happy with one deer.

I try to make each buck I kill at least bigger than the last buck I shot. Sometimes it's hard though when they're standing broadside at 12 yards scratching their back with their antlers.

I'm a meat hunter. My family LOVES venison and as a Gourmet cook I prepare it many many different ways. If it's legal..it dies. Don't get me wrong, I respect each hunters reason for shooting whatever he/she wants, but for me 2 1/2 or younger is tastier. But if Old MossyHorns walks by....Twang!!!!!! I'll just make more Italian sausage and breakfast sausage!!! Wi-Doe

I think that 6-pointer in my avatar might have been 2 1/2 or thereabouts.

With it be year number one for me with a bow, if I can get my heart rate in check when a deer walks by and control the shaking, I'd be happy with a tender eating deer. I don't think horns taste too good in a stew.

Redeye, best bet would be to try and get them to try either slim jims or summer sausage made from venison. or you could try this quick one:
stroganoff: venison cubed into small squares(tenderloins) small onion mushrooms small carton heavy cream seasonings to taste brown meat in olive oil along with diced onion drain add mushrooms to mix simmer and add cream season to taste, garlic powder, seasoned pepper, seasoned salt. serve over mashed potatoes or noodles. enjoy!!!

Redeye, hope she'll give this one a try. really good. can't even tell what it is after its cooked. the other thing you'll want with this is hot buttered biscuits. and have her help you cook it if you try it. let her do the seasoning. if you want to thin the cream a bit, add butter, not water or milk.
