#10 Can Van Kamps Pork and Beans
1/4 lb Brown Sugar
3 large yellow onions
1 lb bacon
32 oz ketchup
1/3 cup French’s Mustard

Drain the liquid off the pork & beans and put in pan and set aside.
Cut the bacon into 1” strips and fry. Remove the bacon from the grease and add to the beans.
Slice and quarter the onions and sauté them in the bacon grease.
Add the onions and the brown sugar to the beans and mix.
Add the ketchup and the mustard and mix again.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover the beans and put them in the oven.
Bake for 2 hours, uncover and bake for another hour.
For a little zing, add 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper before baking.

Bless your heart! That's almost the exact recipe that I've used for years.

My twist is to not used so many onions. I use 1 large onion that's been sliced from the end, about half way thru, sitting in the middle of the beans. I like to lay bacon strips across the beans while they cook and will occassionally add a couple of tablespoons of melted bacon grease when mixing.
