What are you using????

I have a stock mic on my Sony HVR-Z1U and would like to upgrade.

Same here. I dont know what a good one is to get. I know a few years ago I was told the factory sony shotguns were fine. I was talked out of an upgrade by some. So I cant wait to hear everyones input.

Rhode NTG-1 or Rhode NTG-2 or if you want ot spend more money the Sennheiser line is nice as well.
