Maybe she tried jumping a fence, flipped and caught something sharp on the way down, and it just tore her. It's like she's carrying a rug with her.

I would think "catching" something would just rip a hole....not do damage like that. That is one of the craziest pictures I've seen. I guess we will never know.

I'm gonna' lean towards "high speed grazing impact".

Either way. she couldn't have lasted long...

One of my dad's mules caught the side of her face on a loose piece of wire (cattle panel that broke away from the side of a gate) and she jerked her head. It tore a piece of flesh about 4 inches wide all the way down to her mouth. No idea why it stopped there. Anyway, we treated it with spray antibiotic and it healed up fine. I realize that the small piece of flesh on Red's face was nothing next to the the huge piece of flesh on the deer but I think—barring coyotes and frost bite—she could have survived. Be on the lookout for her next season.

I'd hate to have a judge explaining "Morally right" versus "Legally right". If you hit deer around here and it's laying on the side of the road still kicking, you have no LEGAL right to put it down. You're supposed to call the local law enforcement agency and wait for them to get there, so they can dispatch it.

Yeah I get that to a point, but we recently had a doe running around our area with an arrow and a broadhead shot through her nose and sticking out the neck. Looked like somebody just took a pot-shot.

The guy that posted the pics in the paper said she was losing blood like crazy. It took DOW 3 days just to call the guy back asking if he had her location.

Seriously??

She was spotted 5 days later by another JohnQ and the Sherrif's department took care of business. How she lasted that long I have no idea.
