Well I finally got my hut out up here for the first time on Sunday. Been an good year just haven't had the time to get it out.

Started to fish at 12 noon an by 12:30pm I'd already landed this nice 7lb trout.

Lost another two whites in the afternoon but had fish graphing all day. Never went more then 5 minutes without a fish graphing.

Had an buddy using the hut today an they got 1 Whitefish by 12, not sure how they made out in the afternoon as I'm still waiting to hear from him.

Will post picture as the season progresses here.

Matt

Well that spot soon died off move to the south about an KM an got back on the trout once again. Couldn't find the Whitefish anywhere around.

On Feb 16 decided to moved it north about 9Km to join in with my brother in-law as they were doing really good for whiyefish where they were. Each day I wnet out I was limiting out on good 4+lb whitefish. The las day I was there this past week a caught an 2lb whitefish that I released then got an big 7lber later in the afternoon then at 3:30pm I hooked into an big trout. Manged to get him into the hut and out the door. ended up tipping the scales at 14lbs, my personal best ever for an Lake trout.

The gaff in the picture is 26" long, was by myself so had to wait to get home before getting a picture with thefish

Great fish! That freaking trout is a monster! My youngun would wet the inside of his waders if he caught one that size on his flyrod.

One question though, what exactly is a Whitefish? I don't think we have them down here in Virginia.

Well whitefish is something alone the line of an Herring/Cisco just the mouth placement is different will try an get an better picture the next time I have one on the ice.

The season is coming to an close here fast (March 15). Season has been good one this year. I've caught two fish in the teens the first was 14lbs and the second was 13lbs 3oz. Average fish has been weighting between 7lbs-9lbs haven't seen anything under seven pounds in awhile. it's has been common for one of our four huts to catch an 10lb+ each week. Looking forward to getting out there for the rest of the season.

Some pretty nice fish you've caught this year, bud. I've only had time to get out once this year, and that was our annual trip to Lesser Slave lake in mid-Feb. Our season ends on the 15th of March as well, so there are no more trips on the hard water for me this year. The way the weather has been, lately, though, makes me think that ice out will be a while if the warm weather comes slow. - 35 with -45 windchills the last few days, and more -30 plus temps this year than we've seen for some time. Oh, well, spring is coming, and so is bear season!!
