Default wi trapping season opens
well i set up some traps today. its Wisconsin's opening weekend of trapping season. im pretty excited for tomorrow morning to see if i get any!

what do you get most of the time in the traps.The only thing I ever traped when I was young was gophers.I got a 25 cents a tail

well this year is my first year. but we're mostly going for coons. checked all the traps this morning and didn't catch anything. bummer. oh well, theres always tomorrow!!

Where do you have your traps set? What are you using for bait?

It's been really dry here in Wi. where she is trapping. The ponds that she set up by are all dry. Guess we need cold and water. The traps are set up on the coons trails, hopefully she catch one.

Are they near a food source? Don't worry too much about water, while coons are found near water a lot, plenty get caught with no water anywhere near by.

They're looking to fill their bellies with winter coming on, so set up the food (corn)!

I'm just one of those guys that grew up with a dad who hunted, fished, and trapped EVERYTHING, so while I'm not an expert at any of it, I know a little about a lot! Kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" kinda guy.

We hunted small game as much as deer, fished for blue gills as much as trout, and trapped coons as much as canines.

I don't think there is a single game animal in the state that I haven't shot EXCEPT for quail and they're just not in my part of the state and are rare in the parts they are in. I've probably caught 95% of the fish, and trapped most of the furbearers too. I may have only caught 1-2 of them, but I've caught them!

Just trying to help out with the knowledge I have! Especially when it's a kid AND trapping, something that's falling by the wayside more and more each year!

I trapped with my brother when I was a kid but got more focused on hunting in my teens.

Besides boiling those traps and getting sprayed by skunks (all we ever seemed to catch besides the neighbors cats) seemed like alot of work to an 9 year old.

Glad to see people keeping the sport alive!!!!
