Just wondering how many of you use thermacells, and how do they work. We just had a brand new hatch of mosquitos and they are hungry! Bow season starts saturday, plan on going to cabelas tommorow, just wanted some feedback. Thanks.

I have used them and they do keep the bugs away!!!!

I can't wrap my head around the idea that they don't spoke deer or any other game when I can smell it and it smokes....

I don't have a real world example cause I stopped using it and when to a bug tammer suite...

I would usually put off hunting until the first good frost because of how bad the mosquitos are around here. Particularly with the amount of pools found with EEE near my house.

However, this year I bought a ThermaCell and tried it for the first time. I was impressed with how well it worked but I'm also a bit skeptical about the smoke and odor it gives off.

Given a choice between sitting still without misquitos bothering me with an order that may spook deer and waving my hands around, I'll take the first. I used on recently and it worked great. My son didn't have one and even though he had a leafy camo outfit on, the misquitos swarmed around his eyes.

I think that if you play the wind right, you shouldn't have much problem. Heck people smoke in their stands all the time.

have used the thermacell for the past two years. will not do any early season hunting without it. it keeps all sorts of bugs away.

Here in Texas we live and die by Thermacell in bow season!!

I know it has a smell but everyone I know uses it and we have all killed deer while using it. Will had the deer I am hunting this year all under him last year while using the Thermacell. He came in from behind Will, scraped right beside the tree Will was in, and eased out back behind him. No hurry, no fuss, no muss. I have had deer feeding all around my blind while using the Thermacell. So I am thinking the smell doesn't alarm them. Who knows?

I can tell you that I will be out Saturday with my Thermacell and replacement pads and butane on hand!!!! One of the biggest fights of our marriage (and there have been some doozies!) was when we only had one and he stole it to go on an afternoon hunt. We now have one each and a spare, just in case!!

If you don't have it, get the holster for it too. You can carry a spare butane bottle and extra pads. Plus it allows you to strap it to a tree limb out of the way.

the smell is a natural smell to animals. The "blue" stuff on the mat is made of natural ingredients. I have used them since they hit the market around 10 years ago. I wont go in the woods without one! Ive had deer absolutly down wind and close, to the point where I can see the smoke going right to them and they never lifted there heads. I could see in a situation where a deer is already alert and smells something "different" he might spook but I also believe that some cover sense can do the same thing.

I used mine for shooting 3-D all year and they do work. But I dont know if it wood spook deer from the scent of it.
