My first mule deer hunt, it was early-Nov and cold, well cold for NM anyway, still it was cold! so me being cold blooded I thought I would be smart and put on two per of thermals Not such a good idea! See here in NM it gets cold at night, but will warm up by about 20* in the day, two thermals dum dum dum dum thing to do Live and learn

Uhhh...ya'll remember the incident where I lost my pin to the bottom platform of my climber, had to make a "makeshift" pin, missed out on a couple of deer because nature called and I wet my pants?? Yep...that was the dumbest!

Getting in my stand, and cutting some branches out of my way with my hunting knife, and slipping and cutting 2 fingers right to the bone. It looked like a blood trail from a deer. I got light headed, but I did manage 8 or 10 stitches over that deal......

The dumbest thing I ever did was this year was on a windy day with a 20 degree high. I climbed into my treestand about an hour before sunrise wearing three layers and thermals. I sat motionless for four hour stretches throughout the day. When the sun went down and the sky turned dark I was so stiff and cold and miserable I had difficulty getting down from the treestand and out of the woods. Dumb, dumb dumb...

I like to stomp on fire at mounds. Well I was hunting hogs and decided to walk through and see if I couldn't jump something up. Well I was walking and came upon a fire ant mound that was nearly up to my knee. Forgetting that it had rained the night before I stomped right into the middle of that mound (smiling). When I lifted my foot back up I had about a 10lb brick of mud stuck to my boot with thousands upon thousands of angry fire ants on it. I screamed like a school girl hobbled to a tree a few feet away and started kicking. Finally I knocked them all off before I got bit by any. Whew that was close. Later that date I stopped by a tree to urinate and started getting bit on my leg. I looked down and I was standing there urinating with my left foot on a small fire ant mound. I did a dance and a lot of slapping on my legs. Worst part is that my buddy was waiting for me in the truck and watched me through the windshield running, dancing, and slapping while trying not to drop my pants around my ankles. It was bad!
