Default question on katera XL tuning for Ralph

Or whomever knows...

2008 katera XL
(less then 50 arrows through it)

29"
60-70 lb
75% let off
Z3 cam
brace hieght measures 7 1/4"
(according to the HOYT tune chart it should be 7")

ATA 35 3/4" (on the money according to HOYT's timing chart)
tillers measure 9"

when at full poundage
(Limb bolts tightend down all the way then back 1/4 turn, 70 lbs on scale)
bottom cam timing marks:
limb is in between them, in spec according to HOYT.

when I take 2 full turns out of the limb bolts,
the top timing mark is barely outside the limb, almost even(barely in spec).
poundage is at 60 on scale, which equals 5 lbs per turn??

when I take 3 full turns out of the limb bolts,
the top timing mark is inside the limb by 1/8" (out of spec according to HOYT)
Also the poundage is now at 58, which equals 4 lbs per turn??

should the timing marks be that sensative?

should the limb be further inside the marks?

it just doesnt seam right.

What I have found with most of Hoyts cam and Ĺ systems is that you need to worry more about the cam stops them the timing marks. When you draw your bow back the draw stops on top and bottom cam should hit at the same time. They seem to shoot better this way then trying to just using the timing marks. And it also gives you a more solid back wall to shoot from.
Part of the problem with the timing mark idea is that if you donít have the limbs maxed out you change the bend of the limbs and it looks like the timing is way off. I hope this makes sense to you. If not I could try to fins a picture to show you, but that may take a long time. If you need any more help feel free to ask here or PM me.

well, after checking my draw stops and they were WAY OFF. it took 7 twists in the control cable to get them right. and magically the bottom limb is between the cam hash marks.

set nocking point at 1/8" high

center shot set at 7/8"

shot throught paper starting at 4 feet and going out to 10 yards

low right tear everytime, I adjust knocking point, I adjust center shot. doesnt make a difference what way I move anything i get a low right tear. WTH!!!!!

I hope I didn't miss it if you've already mentioned it but what arrows, spine, length, point weight, fletch style, illuminated nock? Not trying to shift blame off the bow but if you are having tuning problems with several different bows from different manufacturers maybe the arrow might be a place to look? Are you shooting an ultra light arrow to maximize speed? Or maybe an arrow with low straightness tolerances? Any fletch contact? Too heavy or light of a point? I had problems with the original tracer nocks several years ago, my arrow spine was on the weak side for my setup so when I added the tracer nock to the back of the arrow it wreaked havoc on arrow flight, not to mention FOC (I think the originals weighed like 40 grs) Also are you shooting a release or fingers?

sorry, forgot to add on the last post. Ralph is not ignoring you, R+V are currently Griz hunting in AK. It's kind of a mad dash from now until the end of the season so the schedule it pretty hectic, but I'm sure when he's in the office he'll reply as soon as he gets time.
