Sorry about your friend FD. He sure looked like a sweetie. My first hound is getting up in year, almost 9, that's not going to be easy to let go of him. I'm hoping to get a pup from him here soon, it won't replace him, but at least he'll live on some what.

Dang Scott that's tough. Sorry to hear about that. I'm sure he was a great friend and hunting buddy for you. Been over 17 years since we lost our Missy, and I'm still not over it. I feel for you buddy.

First time I've been without a pet in 38 years. Cheli was my first dog.
I still "hear" him in the house and see him kicked back on the floor....until I realize it is something else.

Well don't do what I've done. I don't want this to come across as cold, because I really don't mean it that way.

Give Cheli his proper mourning, then get back in the game as soon as you're ready to start with another pup. As sad as this sounds, the sooner the better for you, your family, and some lucky dog that will get something his or her litter-mates might not get.

I've carried Missy around way too long because I convinced myself there would never be another one like her.

I hope I'm getting across what I want to here...

I'm gonna' have a hard time convincing the wife....but I would like another lab.
Our son Cooper has just realized that Cheli is gone. I was basically over the "hard part" when he started asking "where is Chelios....where is Chelios" this afternoon. Breaks my heart.

All will be fine. This was so much harder than I thought.....but I know it was time.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

FD, know exactly where you are coming from. this is my baby. had her for 5 years. had to put her down because of hip dysplasia. bad enough, but came 2 months after the daughter passed, and 1 month before grandma. swore I would never get another lab. hang in there. it does ease with time.

Sorry to hear that. I've been there, it's tough to part with them.
