Yeah I missed that show as well
Now for everyone going on their 1st elk hunt, if you can I would say go with a good outfitter or someone that knows their elk hunting, and hunt in the same state that you will start hunting. This way who ever you hunt with you can quiz them, look at it more like an elk hunting class, and treat it as one, you will learn a lot. Most hunters I get really do not care hows things are done in the elk woods they leave that up to me, but if you go in a hunt ask questions! The only stupid question ever asked, is the one never asked Now I know that not everyone wants to spend the $$ on an outfitted hunt, and not everyone knows someone that they can go hunt elk with, so: Calls- like posted above cow calls are the most used calls and for those of you that have read my elk hunting posts before you know I like Primos ![]() Yes my hunting pack always has at lest 4 different cow calls in it ![]() Hyper Lip Single and Double- these calls work wonderfully, but it takes some time to master them. Hoochie Mama- this call widely used by a large # of hunters so I will not use it to much in heavily hunted areas, but it is good to throw it into a series of cow calls ![]() Elk Select 4 pack- these little mouth reeds are a must have for myself, I have called in more bulls with these calls then any other call, but again it take time to master. There are a few other older calls that I use, but I can't remember the names ![]() As for a bugle I use the Primos Bull Horn, it's small and compact, it also sounds great! ![]() Also when putting in for hunts the middle to late Sept. is best here in NM, but every state can be different, but here we don't ever put in for the late hunts. If you are going to spend the $$ and the time to do an elk hunt you want it to be the best spent $$ & time that it can, the later the hunt the harder it will be to find elk.

Not for Archery, but there are still plenty of OTC Elk tags out there for 2nd and 3rd rifle.
I think you already answered this one, but did you? I think Cheri and I are going try and make it down your way next year. $ got tight with that Texas trip.

Yeah my hunting buddy Travis and I were lucky enough to get archery elk tags this Sept.
Hey let me know when you are looking at putting in down here and I can mail you a NMG&F Info Book, and can help with any questions
