Default Kentucky Bowfishing

So we maybe kill a few every now and then.
Here is the haul from one night of two shooters last week, and we had lousy aim that night.

Now does anyone want to take me up on my offer? lol This very well might be my favorite archery thing now. It is too much fun. You can go out, hoot and holler, laugh and cut up, get hundreds of shots, stay out late. And this is the only sport you can miss 20 times in a row in and still have fun.

I have plenty more pics if anyone else is interested.

We cleaned the paddlefish, buffalo, and bigger gar.

Asian carp is edible, but the way they were stinkin we weren't brave enough to try it.

All the fish that look like catfish are actually asian carp, about 10 bigheads and the rest silvers. They are an invasive species that are wreakin havoc on the ecosystem. They populate very quickly, get too large for predators very very quickly....So no natural predators, multiplying rapidly, and eatin up to 10x their body weight daily in plankton = not good. they are filter feeders and are basically whiping out the bottom link of the food chain, that all sport fish live off of in early stages of life.

Bowfishers can go kill 10x what we did every day for a year and still not change the population, odds are it will continue to grow. We literally saw millions that night. They would run in schools that were 15-20 fish wide, 2-3 fish deep and 15-30 yards long, thousands packed in together. It is a sight to see, and too much fun trying to stick a few.

What better way to help the ecosystem than go out and bowhunt for these destructive critters.

HOLY COW!!! I'm packing my bags!!! I'll be right down!

Man, I do love silvers! We're not allowed to bowfish for them here. We can't bowfish for sport fish.

Your state classifies asian carp as sport fish?

I was below the Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River.

Hmm...lol

Up here, a silver is a hybrid. A cross between a Stripped and White Bass, also known as a Wiper.

OOOH, your talkin bass then. I love fishin for hybrids, as we call em.

these are bighead and silver carp. The silver carp are the ones that jump up into boats knocking out drivers and skiers and what not. TRUST ME, no DNR officer in their right mind would EVER tell you not to shoot any asian carp. They are wanting em dead, all of em, but that is an impossible goal. They will probably congratulate and thank you every time they see you removing asian carp. These are a bad deal in way.

Right now they are trying to keep em out of the great lakes where they could destroy a billion dollar fishing industry... They even have electric barriers and fences up under the water in the canals to keep fish from passing upstream.

What the heck do them paddle fish eat? That one ya'll are holding up looks like it could swallow somebody's leg! They got teeth or are they some kind of modified carp?

We ain't got nothing like that around here. A guy caught a Pirana(I bet I didn't spell that right?) type fish down the road from us last year. The Game Biologists say somebody had turned it loose from an aqarium when it got too big. Sure was easy finding aplace to park down there(on the river) for awhile! Folks wouldn't swim or fish down for a month or so. I had that stretch of river to myself.

Maybe I oughta start another rumor so I can have it to myself again!!!!!
