Well there ya go.
I'll have to check here, but I believe they are in the "Nuisance category" and they may not have a season. I assumed, (possibly incorrectly... we'll see when Laura gets back) that it was the same there. Thanks VA. Check your PM if you haven't already please.

ohio has an actual season on coon. thru the summer, you run the dogs to keep them in shape. same in michigan, wisconsin, and illinois. believe indiana is the same way. coon dog people don't do it for the coon anymore. they just love listening to the dogs. in laws had some of the top dogs in the country a few years back. health got him out of it. still misses it. and the boy just doesn't have the time anymore with his job. Lauras dogs have some of the in laws blood lines in her dogs.

TLC got it.
Come November you will see an end to the chases. Not a whole lot of kills, but enough to bring on these pups of ours. I for one don't believe in killing all that many coon, I'd rather keep running them. We can run hounds all year, but season on Raccoon starts in Nov. and runs until end of January. I think in TX you can kill them year round. Other states you can't even run the dogs for weeks, because they have a closed season. Going to be a lot of people out Hide Hunting this year with the fur price increase. Hopefully they'll leave a few for us to tree. I'M VERY EXCITED RIGHT NOW!! THERE'S A BIG YOUTH EVENT ABOUT AN HOUR FROM MY HOUSE AND MY LOCAL COON CLUB IS GOING TO BE A CO-HOST. WE'LL BE TAKING ABOUT 20+ KIDS TO THE WOODS TONIGHT! I'LL BE A JUDGE AND MY DAD WILL BE OUR GUIDE, SO HOPEFULLY WE CAN PUT THESE KIDS IN SOME COON!! SHOULD BE FUN!!!! THESE KIDS WILL HAVE CHANCES AT WINNING HUNTING LIGHTS, AND SCHOLARSHIP MONEY, AND JUST HAVING A GOOD OLD TIME!

Well the Event was held!
Unfortunately I didn't get to Judge a cast. I was bummed. ![]() 4 kids walked away with $2,000 dollar Scholarships! 36 walked away with a New Hunting Light! Many more went home with Trophies! All of them went home with a good memory of the event! The winners of the hunt and show were 12yr olds. I know the one that won the Bench Show! I actually know a few of the kids that placed, so that's awesome! Here's some Links to the winners! Coon Hunting seems like it's on the down low, but we're still staying strong.
The United Kennel Club has been really pushing for Youth involvment, and I think numbers would be steadily growing if not for the high gas prices that keep people from traveling.
