We have a nice brown on one of our baits that seems to have a bad haircut. The hide looks matted on his side. We were thinking an old wound scarred over. We will hunt him in earnest this week and see what happens. He was on a bait 1 mile away and has since moved to ours thankfully.

Welcome to the forum, bullgetter! ![]() I wonder what Edgar Allen Poe would have to say about the third pic...what do you think, bullmoose?

Monie
"evermore"? That scar almost looks like it had a run in with some buckshot?

We are pretty sure the bear has a scar and has not been rubbing as we have other pics and his hide is fine. My buddy sat on that bait last night and did not see him. We have pics the day before at 3:00 in the afternoon so he's still around.
The ravens have been terrible and I wonder how much bait has been going to the bears and how much to the birds. One bait has 12-16 bears on it and we go through 2 45 gallons drums of bait every 3 days. I also have pics at this bait with 50 ravens in one picture and they can eat alot but only if the bears leave it on the ground for them. We have 5 days left in the season and will hunt every night so hopefully we can take this old boy. |

Well we did it! Bear came in Tuesday night at 8:30 and Mike made a great double lung shot at 18 yards. We figure he was 350 pounds as it was tough to load him on the quad. The scar was a wound we assume from fighting, I also found a bite mark on his hind quarter while skinning. Skull should go 18 to 19 inches and he was 6 feet nose to tail skinned. Things have really greened up in our part of Alberta and the baits have slowed right down. Bears like this make it all worth it.
