Aaaaaanyways....
Ultimate goal huh? Hmmm... Well being a newbie... I would have to say my bar is currently set low in comparison to some I've read. We've moved that "bar" higher and higher with each shot we take. We've talked about Caribou in Quebec, Orix in Namibia, hogs in Oklahoma and Texas, Elk and Mulies here in Colorado. The more I think about it... maybe this hunting thing isn't really the reason I want to go after the animals I want to go after. Maybe its the adventure I crave more than the hunt. I guess to illustrate this, I have to rely on my friend Chuck. Chuck was born and raised in Los Angeles. One day, my boss came by and asked a sarcastic "Where would you rather be than here?" Chuck says immediately, no thinking about it, "Los Angeles." I've been to L.A. and HATED IT! Never saw the sun in a week. People rushing all over. Palm trees all over, but not real trees. Not much would pass for "real" out there come to think of it. Take that anyway you wish. But for Chuck... that's home. I asked him, "What about London, Paris, even New York for that matter?" He said "Nope. L.A.. Period." I paused and felt sorry for him for a moment, because of all the things he would miss in this lifetime. The Aspen turning in Colorado. Being in a quiet pasture in a tree stand just as the first snow begins to fall, and you can hear the flakes hit the ground. Watching as bear cubs play in front of the bait barrel. Calling in a good Tom and watching as he struts in. Pulling in a huge salmon in Alaska, watching the rod bend in unatural directions, while surrounded by gorgeous mountains. None of these things matter to him, but I would love to witness even one of them before I "shuffle off the mortal coil", as it were. I guess what I'm saying is maybe for some the hunt is the reason we get to see the things we see, and for some the hunt is just a part of it. I couldn't tell you within even 10 of how many geese my grandpa and I dropped when we went goose hunting, but I can easily recall the stories he shared, the laughs we had, the people we met. Maybe I've taken this whole thing off track again, and if so, I appologize, but for me, the hunt is just a piece of the adventure. I want the adventure.

Rick,
What you've described is what YOU look for in a hunt. I'm kinda like that also. Over the years I've decided that the experience is of just BEING THERE is all that matters. Getting something is a bonus. Like others here, caribou, elk(low country ,please) and Moose would top my lists of things to do. But like Rick, the "just being there" is what I crave more than anything else. Va Hunter

My ultimate goal is to experience hunting every big game species of animal in North America and hopefully a few in Africa and Europe.
