I just about stepped on one the other day.
I was planting some CRP acres and was walking along a creek to get to the pickup to fill up with seed and came across a little guy, he couldn't have been a day old. I took a couple pictures with my camera phone, but I cant get them off my phone.

Andy and I had to cut a newborn fawn out of a field fence on Saturday. We saw him once while doing some bush hogging, then while Andy was cutting a path down one end of the field, I could hear him call for his mamma. Andy came back across the field for another swipe, then as the tractor disappeared again, I heard a fawn "screaming" something awful. My fear was Andy had hit him with the tractor while cutting the weeds that were almost 3 feet high. I followed the sound and saw that the little guy had tried to jump through a field fence (you know-the kind that has the 5 or 6 inch square opening) the fawns hips joints were caught in the fence. By the time I got to him, I thought he was dead, or at least broke his legs. As much as I hated to touch him (mamma's will normally leave their young if human scent is on them) I put my gloves on and saw that he was still alive. I motioned for Andy and he got the wire cutters and we cut the little guy (yes it was a baby boy) out of the fence. He just laid there for a minute, then got up and took off like a bat out of hell. I am hoping that he found his mamma, but never saw him again. There was no evidence that his legs were hurt
![]() I guessed by the size of him, he was 2 or 3 days old, still have the stump from the umblical cord attached. |

Haven't seen any up here yet this year but I'm sure they are around. Got to go check one of my camera some point this week so we'll see if I have any on there.

HA! Yeah... "There's that nice lady that got me out of that fence! She won't shoot me...even though I have 25 points."
