Yeah, I like trying new, self sufficiency-type things.



So, I fired up the forge (A.K.A. the brake drum inside the grill) and made my first piece. This pair of tongs. It's not a great job, but they're functional. I haven't decided what I want to try to make next.

monie I have done a little blacksmithing but not much. Fabrication and iron work is more my thing.....I've been doing it for almost 20 years now so if I can help you with anything just let me know.

I've got a ton (no pun...) of stuff....shipping would kill ya though. You might want to strike up a relationship with a local scrap yard (not junk yard) most the time if you get along with the place they'll sell you stuff really cheap!

I'm in the process of refining my tong, and learning to tend to the fire better. Bullmoose's dad sure is a big help. He's my Facebook friend and has given me lots of pointers.

I made a steak flipper yesterday. I hear tell they sell for about $20. I was floored. Today, I think I'll try to make a firepoker.
