It's probably a good thing that it was so cold. I'm sure it would have hurt a million times worse if it were warm out...if there is such a thing as hurting worse than she already did. I cringe, when I look at that poor thing. I can't believe they wouldn't even attempt to put it down. Is the area that populated?

Monie,
It's in a northern suburb of Chicago. But, I was quite shocked they wouldn't come out to dispatch her. I guess they had better things to do. And like Firediver said, if I would have taken the initiative to put her down myself, some gun-ho warden would have slapped me in handcuffs and carted me off to the slammer. I felt bad I had to leave her that way, but who knows, I'll be going back into that spot , maybe tomorrow to shedhunt. I'll see if she survived, or I'll see if she was had by coyotee's.

You would be illegal and the judge might be forgiving but you still would be guilty of breaking the laws and some fine might be enforced and a record would be in place and you might loose you hunting privileges. Not worth it.
That much skin removed and that type of exposure is nearly impossibly for it to live through the season. I'd be betting on the yotes or the weather will take her soon. |

Wow, I feel so sorry for that Doe. I've never seen anything like that. Looks like a fairly clean rip, so catching it on a fence could have done that. Mother Nature can be cruel at times.
