How's the girls??? Any honey yet????? Are they buzzing around real happy???

They're doing good. They're finally collecting goldenrod nectar. A lot of people don't like it and some do. They say it smells like sweaty gym socks! lol

I have to say, I did smell that smell the other day.

They haven't made any surplus, yet. Time will tell.

They do have a mite problem. Hopefully, I can knock it out before winter sets in. If the mite population gets out of hand, it can wipe out an entire hive.

Monie, you got me so interested in these bees...guess what I got in the mail this week!! NOT BEES Remember, I am petrified of them But I did get a book on them "Keeping Bees and Making Honey". Maybe I will conquer my fear

What is it that you're afraid of?

The only time the girls get edgey is when they've been robbed by other bees or animals.

One of the guys on the bee forum that I go to said that sometimes, you have to be prepared to walk away and sometime you have to be prepared to run away. Unless the bees are Africanized, they don't follow you very far. They have more important things to do, like make honey and raise brood.

Believe it or not, they are very social animals.
