Questioning my stance on Speed and Lighter Arrows

The kinetic energy works out to about the same. The speed of the lighter arrow makes up for the loss of mass.

No way I would ever go back to aluminum!! To many bent shafts, dented shafts.

Have you done the calculations on the lighter arrow vs lost mass? I haven't, but I would think that the lighter arrow, though faster, wouldn't have the mass on impact that the heavier arrow does. I'm no pro by any means, but that's just my thought.

I appreciate the concern. I'm fine.

Bow is still in the shop. No word yet.

I've checked the Kinetic energy for both.

Light arrow gets about 65.3 ft.lbs
Heavy arrow gets about 64.4 ft.lbs

Now I know the heavy arrow will get more penetration because it takes more resistance to slow down more mass, I never had a problem with penetration on whitetails with the lighter arrow.

I'm leaning towards the heavier arrow for safety, noise and more forgiveness.

I would like to get some of my speed back and go halfway. Just don't feel like buying another dozen arrows right now.

I am losing 16.6 fps with Maximas. Arrow and tip weight are 403gr. I'm planning on switching to Gold Tip Ultra Light Pro 500's that will get me the 350gr, increase my speed by that 16.6 fps and take my KE up over 74 ft lbs. GT are incredibly strong arrows - Much more carbon, much less fiberglass.

Going to a 250 spine shaft when you really ought to be shooting a 350 spine is also asking for more difficulties in my opinion. Personally a slower arrow with optimum KE makes more sense. It makes for a quieter bow and hopefully less jumping the string by the game you are shooting at.

The bow is OK!!!!!

Picked it up tonight and shot about 15 shots and no problems. I'm stickin with the Maxima 350s for this year and will switch to the Maxima 250 next year.

All I had to buy was a new meta peep!!!

I asked my pro shop guy about the Gold Tip Ultra Light Pros and he said they can be fragile. So be carefull and don't miss!!!! Let me know how they work out!!!!

Hey that is good news! Glad that's done for ya. Down side is that you're back to the original problem. Now back to the drawing board huh?

Nah. I'm good with the Maxima 350s for this year. I'll look at the 250s next year. That will give me something to tinker with.

No way the wife will let me get a new bow 2 years in a row!!!!
