i was just wondering if you could tell how old a buck is at this time of year. when they are just starting to grow the antlers.

I will guarantee you this is impossible to tell. I know a few people that own deer and me being one myself. Some deer will go nuts in the early stages while some go nuts growing in the later stages. So I know there is no way of telling a deers age by this. Im sure you can get in with 3 years but thats a pretty big gap considering the average age of a whitetail. JMHO |

I agree...you'd be better off looking at body size and the characteristics for the different age classes....most deer look pretty scraggly this time of year though.

Body Size is about all you can get a guess on, but even then it's not for sure.
