What camera to buy?

Ralph, Vicki and Posse...I'm going video camera shopping shortly and I'd like some input from the pros on which model you prefer. Bullmoose is taking me under his wing and guiding me in the right direction, but I figured I'd ask all of you as well. Thanks

Two cameras that seem to be at the top of a lot of lists is the Sony PD170 and the Sony HVR-Z1U.

I have the Z1U and love it.....

One thing to consider.....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!

NOTED!!! I'm a firm believer in that saying. I believe Bull has the PD170, what are the differences between the two. He said he really likes his bc it works so well in low light conditions.

The PD170 is better in low light and costs less......but the Z1U has more bells and whistles and can film in HDV mode.

I'm sure there are more differences but this is all I am aware of.

I also have the z1u and love it! You can't go wrong with the 170 but you may want to consider an HD capable camera due to the changing technologies. That is why I went with the z1u over the 170. R + V replaced the z1u's that firediver and I have with a newer version that is smaller, lighter, and has a higher optical zoom (20x vs. 12x) I can't remeber the model though (fx7 maybe? but I don't think so). Check www.bhphotovideo.com they are a good company, you might find better prices elsewhere but service and selection is hard to beat. They also have used stuff for sale too!

I've had the opportunity to film with the new cameras and other than the better zoom.....I like mine better.
