In MO, there are a number of managed hunts at Conservation Areas and State Parks that aren't open for deer hunting otherwise. I put in for an early December archery hunt at Columbia Bottom, which at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, and got drawn for that hunt. It's close to the house and there a lot of deer out there. I've hunted there once and came home empty handed, but I hope to lucky this time.

Good luck, that type of hunt is done here in Ohio too. You would think it would be a good hunt because of no hunting pressure but the folks I've talked to come up empty more often than a freezer full.

It's not easy. The area has a lot of people just walking and biking through it too. Not where I'm hunting thank God, but I've had a couple just out for a walk and they ended up walking right underneath my stand. I wanted to say something, but refrained.
Some people walking their dogs, don't have them on a leash, even though they are suppose to, and their dogs end up running deer. |
