I've been practicing with my slate call and its been sounding good, but I lost all my sound, I think I got something on the call or something. I did wipe the face of the call on my jeans to get something off it, and it just kept getting worse, now I can't get anything out of it. What kind of maintainence do you do to a slate call, it was sounding so good and now nothing and turkey seasons right around the corner. If you can tell me what I screwed up and how to fix it I would appreciate it. The striker also looks like its really smooth on the end, like its glassed over, is that normal.

Have you tried roughing up the surface with a scotchbrite pad???

Not much just scuff the surface

York hit this one on the head. The surface face has to have some roughness to produce the vibrations. Wiping it off on your jeans will cause the little noise making lines to fill in. I use scotchbrite on my plastic faced calles and a lite sand paper on my slates. Taking a little scothbrite to striker tips ain't bad neither. Keep the scotchbrite in your possibles kit while hunting for touchups while hunting.

I use light sand paper on mine it works great

Use scotch pad or fine sandpaper. Also do the same to the tips. Need anymore help just ask.

Thanks for the tips guys, I sat down last night with my call and a scotch brite pad and about a hour later had the whole thing sounding sweet!!! I'm ready for the thunder chickens again, going to set up blinds this weekend and try to stick one next weekend.
