Can anyone give me an estimate on how many pounds of meat an average bull elk will bone out?I'm going to be hunting in Idaho this fall and right now I'm trying to to determine how much it would cost to ship it back.Right now it looks like its is going to be cheaper for me to drive out and pack everything back home with me instead of flying out and then having meat and cape shipped back.

I shot a huge cow elk a year ago and the butcher told me there was 500lbs there. Not sure if it was deboned or not but its been over a year and we are still eating elk meat and we eat it lots.

Average live weights of mature Elk :Cow 500 punds (225 kg)
Bull 700 pounds (315 kg) You will lose at least half to head, hide, guts, and bones ending up with half or less of those weights |
