You're right you can't shoot low or forward enough in my opinion. Best place low and right at the back crease of the front leg. You'll lose an arrow but they'll drop quickly. Hit it like a deer and you may be tracking for the rest of the day. Plus, they almost never bleed out well. I have found them in the past with absolutely on blood trail but you open them up and find they've bled out on the inside. Their fat seals up holes pretty efficiently.
