Lamination is not the same thing as the rubber jaws but both are done to protect the animals foot from damage.
As for NAFA vs. a local guy, I really doubt you're losing out on that much $ going with the local guy, plus they will typically tell you what you're doing wrong when you put up your fur. With NAFA, you're not going to hear back that you're cutting too big of a window in the fur or you cut the legs too long / short, etc., but, too each his own.
