Bless your heart! That's almost the exact recipe that I've used for years.
My twist is to not used so many onions. I use 1 large onion that's been sliced from the end, about half way thru, sitting in the middle of the beans. I like to lay bacon strips across the beans while they cook and will occassionally add a couple of tablespoons of melted bacon grease when mixing.
