I took my nephews out for a Canadian Thanksgiving day hunt. The younger nephew has a Pointer that is really coming into her own. Pointing and holding grouse and woodcock alike.
We moved four or five grouse and a couple of woodcock and we scratched out a grouse over a nice point on a brace.
Next we moved onto a cover that has been posted for as long as I remember but the old fella died last winter and one of the boys knows the new owner and we now have permission to hunt there. WOW! Haven't got into that many grouse in a long time. We moved about 15-20 in an hour and a half and the boys each scored twice.
One was a nice red phase which I rarely see up here. There are mostly grays around here.
We had time for one more cover and killed one more grouse (I wasn't skunked) and a couple of Doodles.
I am realizing that Mookie is a natural retriever. He didn't get to hunt with the big dogs but he got to enjoy the spoils. Who says dogs don't like the taste of woodcock?
Ok, give it back now.
I hope all of you fellow Canadians had an enjoyable Thanksgiving.
