Best Wood for Box Calls?
 

Making a box call in shop but not sure what would be the best wood. Any suggestions?

Have a buddy that makes calls and he uses walnut, cherry, hard maple, and some others that i can not remember. I know that he likes to use exotics also.

Thanks! do you know what he uses for like the box and the lid if he uses different kinds of wood or the same?

He mixes it up quite a bit. Somtimes he'll make the whole thing out of the same wood others he will use two different kinds. He seems to favor walnut for the lids and uses walnut bases with cherry, hard maple and others for the sides.
