From another website in response to a similar question:

According to the Numrich Arms (Egunparts.com) Store brand/MFG cross reference guide, it is a Stevens Model 83.
These were classic well made, yet utilitarian Savage design .22 rifles. And in good condition should be very accurate.
Interestingly, the Stevens Model 83 is listed (as per Gun Traders Guide) as being made from 1935-39. And all examples I've seen differed from the Sears Ranger in that they had a basic steel trigger guard. While the Ranger's have a molded type which was not generally used at that time.
My guess is that Sears contracted w/Savage at a later date for a single shot .22 rifle and the model 83 was resurrected for them. But not reintroduced on the Savage/Stevens lineup.

I checked the Sears archives and didn't find anything. I did a Google search of Sears catalogs and came up with this: http://www.cornellpubs.com/Templates4/Sears%201937.html

The only thing is you would have to purchase specific years to access the info. It's the best I could find for you at the moment.
