Lonnie and his Florida hog.
Hunter: Lonnie Turnbeaugh
Cameraman: Meegan Turnbeaugh
Wow, I had no idea how much fun Meegan and I were in for when we got the invite to spend the 4th of July holiday at Osceola Outfitters in Orlando, Florida.
Hanging out with Hoppy and Sage and others from the ACM team was probably the most enjoyable trip I have ever been on.
On morning 2 it was my turn to hog hunt. I would be guided by Sage, with Meegan running the camera. We would be spotting and stalking. The morning was cool for that time of year and things started off a little slow until Sage spotted some hogs. We crept up slowly keeping the wind in our faces only to find it was a sow with babes, so we moved on. A short time later we spotted a nice boar, and the stalk was on. We closed the distance to 25 yards and were waiting for a good broadside shot when the wind changed… BUSTED!
It was getting close to noon when Ralph called and asked if we got anything, they were headed to the lodge for lunch. Sage said we would be coming in after we check this one last spot, so off we went. We eased along the edge of some palmettos and heard hogs up ahead of us. We crept into position and waited for what seemed like forever. Finally they started milling in front of us and Sage said, “Take the big white one!” Meegan said, “I am on him.” That was all I needed to hear. The Hoyt came to full draw and launched the Spitfire Max tipped Beman arrow silently and accurately.
The hog let out a squeal and ran a short 20 yards before collapsing. What an awesome hunt. I cannot say enough about how much fun we had on this trip. Thank you Hoppy and Sage and thank you to Ralph and Vicki for the invite!
