No trick this buck is a Treat!
Hunter: Brian Heitter
Cameraman: Scott Wolfe
The season started off real slow for me, I had only seen a handful of deer in a dozen sits. I was getting pretty frustrated, to say the least. The spot where I usually see a lot of deer early season was a ghost town. Usually the corn is picked early there, and the huge cornfield behind the property was still standing, that made things real tough. I even think Scott was getting pretty bored running the camera and not seeing a single deer. Scott decided to let me hunt one of his farms. He decided we would go hunt the food plot, which has not been hunted at all this season. I was real excited, so we made plans for the next mornings’ hunt, which was Halloween day!
Scott had to work until 6 a.m., so he hurried to my house, we got our gear ready, and we were off to the stand. Got the camera and everything setup around 7 a.m. It was a beautiful October morning, the sun was shining, and it was calm. Almost an hour went by and not a trace of a deer, I was thinking, here we go again, not going to see any deer—then a few minutes later Scott says "Shooter buck." My heart started racing immediately. Then we lost sight of him, so I grunted a couple of times and all of the sudden, he appeared right behind the stand. I took one look at him and I knew he was a shooter! So I grabbed my bow to get ready for a shot (if given the opportunity) the nice 10-point is at 35 yards and closing the distance. When he got to 30 yards I pulled my trusty Hoyt back to get ready for the shot. At 25 yards he stopped perfectly in my opening, I couldn’t believe it, so I asked Scott if he was on him and he gave me the go ahead. I let the Beman fly, hitting the buck in the heart—the Hellrazor ripped right through him! He ran across the creek up through the food plot, and piled-up just off in the brush. He only ran 50 yards after the shot!
Man was I excited! I could not believe we did it, all of the hard work finally paid off. The really cool part about this hunt was the fact that Scott and I put in the food plot together, hung the stands together, and checked the trail cameras together—total team effort! This absolutely was one of the most exciting hunts I have ever been on. I got my first deer on video and had my good buddy filming me, THANKS MAN! It was an awesome day!!!
