The Cub in the barrell!
The beautiful scenery at Wapus Lodge!
June 12 - Gary and I arrived today at Ottawa Ontario - Mannon picked us up and drove us about 4.5 hours into Wapus Lodge here in Quebec. We got into camp around 7:00 p.m. and met Mannon’s husband Paul and her sister Sophie. We are staying in cabin #3 and Gary just told me he sleep walks and yells in his sleep. I have decided to keep the Tenpoint crossbow cocked all night!
June 13 - We had breakfast at the Lodge then Gary, Surge, Simon and I went to check out a bait. It wasn’t hit so we are going across the lake to where Surge has another site. Simon took us across a lake then we took a 4-wheeler about a mile or so. Gary and I set up The Choice Blind and sat. We had a chipmunk try to climb up our bunk, but nothing else happened tonight. Oh well, one day down and three to go. When we came back to our cabin there was dinner all set waiting for us. Now that is service!
June 14 - All night it rained and thundered. Most of the morning was the same. Simon took his plane out early and air checked the baits and the first bait we went to was hit. He checked the prowler and at 8:20 p.m. a small bear was in and at 4:00 a.m. a good sized bear came in. He flew over our bait we sat last night and it was not hit, but we are going back to that one tonight since it is normally baited every couple of days.
Well, it wasn’t long and our 1st bear came in from our right. It was a Yearling just kicked away from its Mom, we laughed as it climbed in and out of the barrel. Later on a Pine Martin came in and then another Yearling. This one was a little bit bigger but both still wouldn’t make 75 pounds together. All in all it was a good evening sit. I also taught Nick and Thomas how to shoot the crossbow today. Nick reminds me of RJ and I am missing him bad!!
June 15 - This morning I went to get the Prowler from where we sat last night. Gary and Simon flew over the camp and Gary was filming it all . We then went to check the 1st bait we saw and on the Prowler we have a small bear and maybe a medium bear so we set up The Choice blind. We sat the blind and had no luck. I heard something walking to our left but nothing came in. Right at dark we saw a lot of lighting and heard thunder so Gary and I hit it hard and rushed back to camp before the storm hit.
June 16 - Once again it is raining, windy, thunder and lighting. Later on the weather broke and Gary and I headed out to #10. It wasn’t long and we had a medium size black bear come down the road as he got to us he spotted us in the stands. We were not moving. Is it the blaze orange? Is it too much pressure? He woofed but came around to the back of the bait but he never quite eased up, he was always looking at us and then he just had enough and took off. About 20 minutes later we spotted another bear up the road crossing but that one never came in. We sat the rest of the night, lots of storms and bugs, but no bear.
