Ralph and Rod!

Hoppy, Hal & Ralph!

Hunter – Ralph Cianciarulo
Cameraman – Rod McGrath

June 1
Last night we arrived in Winnepeg and met up with Kenneth, Hoppy and Hal. Vicki and I in the morning Russ & Joel picked us up and we drove two hours north. The camp is at a lodge at the Narrows at Lake Manitoba so we can't hunt on Sundays so we are just hanging around camp. Tomorrow we will start hunting.

June 2
We all headed out to the baits. I decided to film Hoppy, we had a small chocolate come in. Vicki had a small black bear come in. Steve and Hal had no bear in.

June 3
I filmed Rod and we had a crazy night. We sat a bait to the north and saw 12 bears. They were all over the place, but no big boars came in for Rod to get a shot. Steve had no bear, Hoppy no bear. Hal had a small black in. Vicki passed up a good chocolate and saw another chocolate, but maybe should have shot the bigger chocolate. Weather is moving in. We are having a low pressure movement coming in.

June 4
I went with Rod, he was filming me but no bear came in Hoppy passed on a small black Steve had a nice cinnamon and black bear but the cinnamon was rubbed out. Vicki saw nothing but a coyote. Hal had no bears in.

June 5
Today was the day! Rod and I went to JR's personal condo stand. Yes this was a small cabin on sticks! The bait station was well established and we found a great pod trail of a good bear. At 8:30 we had a small two year old come in from the south. This bear told us everything. First he was so nervous always looking to the west, then we heard a branch snap then he stared to the east. Telling us a bigger bear was circling. Next he took off and we knew something was coming in. I looked out the door of JR's condo and told Rod "BEAR!, Shooter BEAR!" He came in from the east and right to our Evolved Habitat Bear Gel! I didn't hesitate and took him at 25 yards! Hoyt 67lbs Spitfire Beman - 6'6", 425 pounds, 25 yardshot, 150 yard recovery. The same evening Vicki shot a good bear too. Vicki's Hoyt 56lb Beman ICS Elite - NAD Hellrazor 100 - Black Bear shot 20 yards, recovery 10. Vicki was being filmed by Kenneth Chessen for She Safari's TV Show "Beyond the Lodge". All the other guys didn't see any movement that night.

June 6
Today we awoke to bad weather. The rain and wind is here and is not going away. We headed out to recover both Vicki's and my bears. We all got soaked and the rain didn't stop until the next morning. June 7th Hal, Steve and Hoppy headed out this morning to sit a few hours. Hoppy saw a bear and so did Steve but no one shot. All in all it was a bit slow due to the late spring and the weather but Adreneline did a great job and big bears are there!
