A First Ever Crossbow Kill!

We arrived in Kansas early Friday night and went out to do a little scouting before the birds went to roost. We heard a few gobbles but not enough to get excited about. This weekend I was using the TenPoint crossbow for the first time.

We started Saturday morning in a place that we have not hunted before. We thought there would be some birds that we have not hunted yet in this new piece of property, but we were wrong. Only hearing one gobble on the roost left us wondering what was up with the birds. We moved pretty much all day trying to find a bird that would answer our calls.

Around 4:00 p.m. we saw two toms and a hen enter a field about 300 yards north of us, but they were not interested in moving our way. We heard another bird gobble and decided to move towards him. After getting set 4 times we finally got close enough to the bird that he answered my calling. He gobbled a six or eight times and then became silent. Darin and I had just said he might be coming in silently when he appeared off to my right where I could see him but Darin could not. I kept asking him, “You got him yet?” It seemed like it took forever for the bird to walk into the view of the camera, and the rest was history.

I was using the TenPoint crossbow and loved it. It adds another dimension to turkey hunting and was the first ever animal I had taken with a crossbow. Thanks to TenPoint, Ralph, Vicki, Joe, and Jody for their help.

Good luck and safe hunting.
