Jake Shoots Tom - Kansas

Jake scores on his second bow kill turkey, with brother Darin capturing all the action behind the camera!

The morning started with us in a brush blind with no action other than a deer giving us fits. We moved to a bird that was gobbling west of us. After setting up, I made a few calls and a hen got pretty excited. She finally entered the field we were watching and began calling. She called for roughly 5 minutes when a Tom entered the field. Two hens came in from the south and I thought the birds were going to leave so I called a few times. That got the hen excited again and she brought the Tom to us. We got lucky in that the hen walked past us without getting spooked. The Tom strutted by and gave me a 43 yard shot.

We could not set up a ground blind anywhere because we were afraid of it burning up. They are burning a lot of pasture ground and not sure where the fires are going to go.

Everything worked out on this bird, unlike many in the past with a bow. I have hunted turkeys a lot with a bow and have only killed one other bird with a bow.

It Jake Shoot a great weekend with lots of Toms reacting to the calls. We called in 4 other birds over the weekend but for one reason or another we could not get them killed with the bow.

Good luck and safe hunting.

Jake
