Hunting Diary

  • Illinois Arctic - Illinois

The snow was falling and the temperatures were dropping as we counted down the remaining days left to the Illinois deer season. We had been keeping a close eye on our HS Vita-Rack food plots for the last two weeks and with this last cold spell, the deer were hitting them hard. We consistently had a multitude of does, young bucks, and 4-6 good bucks working the food plots and then moving off to the… read more »

  • Captivating Island - Anticosti

Anticosti Island... If I had to use one word to explain that place, it would have to be “captivating.” I suppose I say this about a lot of the places I’ve been with Ralph, Vicki, The POSSE and Archer’s Choice Media in general, but “The Island” has a unique, “captivating” stigma about it. We arrived in camp the day before we were to start hunting. We needed to go buy our tags from the local… read more »

  • Caught Off Guard - Kansas

Our 2009 trip to Kansas started out a little rough. It was November 29, 2009 and Terry had just shot his long shot buck on the evening of the 28th. After taking care of Terry’s buck we still had to pack up for Kansas which we finished up by midnight, but we planned to leave at 4:00 a.m. With only three hours of sleep we climbed into the car and began our 1,000 mile trip. It was a long and tiring… read more »

  • My Chance - Illinois

My heart was throbbing, my arms were shaking, and my eyes were focused. I could not believe the emotion that hit me when I knew that I had the shot. I pulled my bow back and put pressure on the trigger, took a breath, and let it go. I watched it pierce her body and she took off. This was such an adrenalin rush for me, one that I have never felt before. Robert told me it was a different type of adrenaline,… read more »

  • On the Scoreboard

As of December 1, 2009, the scoreboard for the year read DEER=2, DANIELLE=0. I had already missed 2 deer with my bow and here it was December 1, the second day of Ohio’s first gun season. I was confident I wouldn’t miss with the trusty Thompson Center. It was a bit chilly as we headed out for the afternoon hunt, but I was all bundled up in my C4 suit. We hadn’t been set up long before… read more »
