Hunting Diary

  • Cold Damp Morning - Missouri

As I sat in the cold damp morning, I told my husband I was done. I have hunted for 4 years now and I haven’t seen a turkey in all that time. This is not for me I quit, that was in 2006. Ever since then Steve, my husband, and Robert my son, have been trying to get me to try it one more time, but I would have nothing to do with it. Finally, for some goofy reason, I told them I would give them one… read more »

  • Turkey Slam Completed - South Dakota

Ralph and I were invited to head out west to South Dakota for some Merriam turkey hunting with some friends from the hunting industry, Byers Media Team. Toby & Ken had us out there a few years ago and we had a blast! That was the year we had a pile of Jakes molesting our decoys and I shot one off of the hen decoy (Hazel) with my shotgun!! Well, since then I have still been trying to finish my turkey… read more »

Go figure, Father & Son tagging out on the same day!! It was… read more »

We saw one gobbler and as we were watching him, four long beards snuck in. I believe they caught our movement and slowly walked off. About an hour later, we spotted two different gobblers and they were locked onto our decoy. I was ready and let the bolt fly, tipped with a Spitfire… read more »

  • RJ’s First Turkey - Florida

March 20, 2010 We arrived down at Hoppy’s; Case had shot his gobbler that morning with Mr. Reed. I know this helped to pump RJ up. We got settled at the camp and met Danny & Gaylan from North Carolina. Danny is really big into collecting turkey calls and has one of the largest collections in the country. Gaylan is a judge and is funny—his stories are priceless. Both Danny & Gaylan… read more »

  • Rekindling the Excitement - Illinois

The turkey gods are being good to me this year!!! Less than a week after filling my first 2009 Illinois turkey tag, I headed out to a farm I've been hunting for about 8 years now. Out of all the spots I've hunted turkeys in the past, this place seemed to have the most birds on or around the property. The last several years have been tough hunting up there...but that is why they call it hunting.… read more »
