"My favorite hunt was back in 2004 when I spent 10 days on the Hogzata River in northern Alaska with my good friend and Hoyt Rep. Shawn Ryan. The hunt and wilderness experience was unforgettable, not to mention we shot 64-½” & 60” Alaskan Yukon Bull Moose."
I grew up in NE Ohio, where I learned to hunt & fish from my father, as most kids do. At age 10 my Dad put a recurve bow in my hand and I shot at hay bales that were in the back yard. This instilled the passion that burns to this day. After a few years, I got my first compound bow. At age 14, me and my good friend, Ron Kirila, used to get dropped off by one of our parents at a farm in PA, where we would pack a lunch, hunt all day, and get picked up by one of our parents after dark. We never really did that good but we were having fun and learning a lot about bowhunting whitetails.
I am now 44 years old and live in Northern Illinois with my wife Karen and daughter McKenna age 4, my future hunting partner. I moved to Illinois back in 1987 to build houses. I have been a Crewleader/Lineman at Com Ed for the past 18 years. It didn’t take long to realize what a great whitetail state we now live in. I also became an avid 3-D tournament archer, competing nationally, and acquired several archery sponsors, shortly after I met Ralph & Vicki. Throughout the years, Ralph & Vicki gave me helpful advice on working with sponsors and doing more with young archers to promote the sport that we all love. I started carrying a video camera with me on my hunts to capture my encounters and adventures, to share with friends and family. After knowing and working with Ralph & Vicki for several years at promotional events, I was asked if I would be interested in joining the POSSE and filming with Archer’s Choice Media. I was both honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such great people, doing something that so many other hunters would love to do.
It wasn't long before I attended my first film school where I met the other new POSSE members and started to learn more about the cameras and what it takes to capture quality footage. My first opportunity to capture a hunt with my Brother-Man Freddy Lagos, was in South Dakota on an Antelope hunt. To say I was nervous was an understatement. It takes a lot more work than most people realize. I captured my first video kill of Freddy shooting a fine Pronghorn, and I was more nervous than if I was doing the shooting myself. The footage went ok for my first hunt and I was hooked on the new found excitement!!! I have graduated to a HD camera now and have enjoyed meeting, hunting, and filming with other POSSE members and Archer’s Choice Staff. Everyone brings something to the team that helps capture the footage needed to put the show together. It does not always go as smooth as the guys in the editing department make it look, but it is worth it. I’ve found a new excitement that goes along with hunting and hope to have many more opportunities to bring that excitement to the fans and viewers of Archer’s Choice.
